Assessments: Strategic, Tactical and Operational
Problem identification and definition are difficult for organizations because people are too
close to the process or have established biases. Junto Group provides an objective review of
a process through three difference offerings: Executive, Snapshot and Comprehensive.
Our Executive Assessments are designed to determine if a problem exists. A senior resource
visits your organization and conducts and "triages" the process over a 2-3 day period. At
the end of the assessment, a problem identification report is presented.
Our Snapshot Assessments are designed to bring immediate value. The clients receive
recommendations for short-term improvements as well as a road map to achieving
long-term goals. Our assessments focus on work processes, not just technology. Snapshot
Assessments are set at a low fixed-fee price.
Our Comprehensive Assessments are extensive reviews of a particular area of concern.
These assessments are designed to be budget-neutral. The savings identified will be greater
than the cost of the assessment, or we will credit the difference. Recommended
Assessments for 2004 are as follows:
> Perioperative Services
> Enterprise-wide Patient Scheduling
> Patient Safety
> Patient Tracking/Patient Flow
> Emergency Department
> Information Systems
Operational Improvements
Many organizations underestimate the value of process improvements. Others pursue the
latest quality management fad, currently six sigma. Some organizations skip this step
altogether and install new systems and technologies on top of broken processes.
We approach business process redesign with our AIM methodology: assess, improve, and
maintain. Instead of selecting one methodology, such as six sigma, we select the pearls of
each approach with an industrial engineering mentality. We identify the root cause, uncover
process variances, and map out an efficient and effective process. We combine subject
matter expertise, industrial engineering, and information systems knowledge to achieve the
best outcome.
Healthcare organizations have made significant investments in systems and technology, but
the valuable information is often buried. Many people are talking about balanced
scorecards and performance monitoring, but most organizations don't realize they already
have the information they need. We help organizations create meaningful performance
management processes tailored to their organization.
Another critical operational improvement process is decision support. Processes can be
developed that provide key information to assist clinicians with care delivery. Processes can
also be developed to assist financial decision-makers leveraging information that already
exists. In most cases, sophisticated cost accounting and decision support systems are not
necessary.
Project Implementations
Because Junto Group combines subject matter expertise, industrial engineering knowledge,
and information systems experience, we are uniquely positioned to assist with project
implementations. We can help with breadth and depth resource requirements.
Our project management resources have process improvement training to ensure that new
processes are implemented in support of the project implementation. Our resources
combine theoretical knowledge with practical healthcare experience.
We utilize resources who have worked in several areas of the hospital and possess the
subject matter expertise to understand the impact to the affected department(s). For
example, our Perioperative resources have several years of Surgery Department experience
and understand the surgeon's needs and the impact to other hospital departments.
Our information system resources understand that technology is not the cause or the
solution to process problems. We believe that technology enables improved processes, and
it is the utilization of technology that drives operational improvements.
Performance Management
Many organizations believe the work is over when a new process or project is implemented.
However, these organizations are missing a critical step. Those of you who have tried to
change an entrenched habit know that it takes several weeks of reinforcing the new
behavior to "break the habit". Our post-implementation services include benefits realization,
project audits, and policy & procedure development.
All projects should end with a benefits realization review. Did the project deliver the
proposed value? If you designed and implemented new processes and systems, wouldn't it
worthwhile to have an objective review? Junto Group provides meaningful results data to
decision-makers to help evaluate project outcomes.
Project audits are similar to other audits. Were all the necessary steps completed? Are
regulatory issues properly addressed? Have all project issues been addressed? Junto Group
provides an objective audit of the implementation.
